The Singing Wazifas

For many years, Jelaluddin Gary Sill served as a music secretary for Murshid Hidayat Inayat-Khan. In 1987, Jelaluddin worked closely with Hidayat to create the recording for the accompaniment of the Singing Zikar of Hazrat Inayat Khan. Later, Hidayat was inspired to create the Singing Wazifas, a collection of 21 vocal compositions drawn from the 99 names of God. To that end he composed melodies and scored the arrangements. Jelaluddin performed and recorded these compositional miniatures over a period of 12 years.

Jelaluddin's Dervish Coffee presentation will look into both the mystical and the practical aspects of experiencing these sacred chants.
