My Blessed Mureeds, The relation that exists between Murshid and mureed is so subtle and so delicate that only a few persons can understand it. For the one who does not know it, it is nothing; and for the one who knows it, it is everything. The light of the stars and planets, which we see, IS in accordance with the light that they responds to. And since the relation between the Murshid and mureed is connected with light, the nature of this relation is also similar to that of the stars and planets.

The condition of this path is to strive to be nothing. And the outcome of it is that by being nothing we become everything.

Perhaps Murshid’s words will inspire us to forget our individual selves and merge into the Light of Oneness during the singing of this precious Zikar.

You cannot refuse to recognize the divine in a person who is a person of peace. It is not the talkative, it is not the argumentative one, who proves to be wise. He may have intellect, worldly wisdom, and yet may not have pure intelligence, which is real wisdom. True wisdom is to be found in the peaceful.

For many years, Murshid Jelaluddin Gary Sill served as a music secretary for Murshid Hidayat Inayat-Khan. In 1987, Jelaluddin worked closely with Hidayat to create the recording for the accompaniment of the Singing Zikar of Hazrat Inayat Khan. Later, Murshid Hidayat was inspired to create the Singing Wazifas, a collection of 21 vocal compositions drawn from the 99 names of God. To that end he composed melodies and scored the arrangements. Murshid Jelaluddin performed and recorded these compositional miniatures over a period of 12 years.

Murshid Jelaluddin's Dervish Coffee presentation looks into both the mystical and the practical aspects of experiencing these sacred chants.

In Praise to The Ideal Saum, Part 1

In the words of Hazrat Inayat Khan: We question, "Why does God need praise from us? Who are we that we should praise God?" We can never praise God enough, and our praise can never be sufficient, but at the same time our soul is blessed with the impression of the glory of God whenever our lips praise God.

We explore the first three phrases of the prayer Saum which offer praise to the Divine Ideal. Practice of the sound vibration of these words in relation to their meaning is accompanied by teachings of Inayat Khan on the God Ideal.
